The music video for “Berzerk” is here! Just as the song is reminiscent of the Beastie Boys, the video is no different. Their are plenty of old school stereo systems, a Beastie Boys trademark, featured throughout. I feel like the video is very 90’s hip-hop which makes a lot of sense since that is when the Beastie Boys experienced the height of their success.

The video also features a few appearances from fellow celebrity friends Kendrick Lamar and Kid Rock (who even knew they were such good friends?!?) and music producer Rick Rubin.

I really love the old-school, laid-back atmosphere in the video. It is very carefree and I think it fits in with the song lyrics perfectly.

ay-Z and Justin Timberlake just released the music video for their single “Holy Grail”. Holy Grail is the first single to be released from Jay-Z’s latest album, Magna Carta Holy Grail. The song centers around a theme of fame and the struggles of a couple to maintain a faithful relationship in the spotlight.

The video is very simple. I enjoy it, but I wouldn’t say it adds a significant amount of emotion or anything to the song itself.  Jay-Z appears somber and a bit sad throughout the video as he is sits in a dark room watching the Mike Tyson fight on television, as referenced in the lyrics.

Avril Lavigne just released a new music video for her latest single off her upcoming self-titled album, “Rock N Roll”. The music video plays out like a comic book full of superheroes, evil villians, and much ass kicking. It is a very amusing and at times strange music video. I feel like it’s a bit too immature for the 28 year old singer, though. At times I found myself a bit annoyed by it because it feels more appropriate for someone 10 years younger than Lavigne, but I suppose it was amusing and enjoyable to watch nonetheless.

Lavigne is dressed in camouflage as the video’s hero emitting a sense of girl power or “rock n’ roll”. She must defeat the evil villains that believe rock n roll to be dead. She has another female sidekick which she ends up hooking up with in the video (lame political statement or just Lavigne trying too hard to be “rock n roll”? You decide…)

The villains that Lavigne and her partner must defeat range from humans, to a lobster (yes seriously there is a tiny lobster with a knife…) to even a bear shark. Yes, you read that…bear shark…as in a bear with a shark head…which Lavigne later beheads.

Lady Gaga officially released her new music video for her lackluster new single, “Applause” on Good Morning America today. Despite the song’s poor reception, the music video is quite entertaining to watch and feels like a work of art, or a movie in itself.

Gaga’s video for “Applause” has an on-time 80’s Bowie/90’s Madonna feel to it. It is very sexual, but in a way that hardly seems trashy. Gaga seems to be trying to show sex as being a work of art in itself and a cause for celebration — or “Applause”.

There are many parts of the video in which Gaga is also seen modeling on a runway as if she is participating in a fashion show. These are followed by some strange, yet traditionally Gaga clips featuring the singer sitting in an oversize top hat giving off an Alice and Wonderland Mad Hatter feel and another clip where the singer is seen wearing a tail followed by dressing as an Ostrich (which will probably give me nightmares….so creepy…)

As I think back to the song itself and try to decipher the overall theme of the song/accompanying music video I can’t help but wonder if this is Lady Gaga’s way of saying that all that she does is for the “Applause”. I wonder if this is her undeclared statement that she’s not actually that “weird” as many believe her to be but she chooses to dress so eccentrically and act so odd simply for the attention or “Applause”.

For what it’s worth the music video is pretty great and worthy of attention, but will it help to save for the boring, forgettable single? Only time can tell. Check out the video below and let me know your thoughts!

Yesterday Lady Gaga announced that she was releasing her latest single, “Applause” a week early due to unexpected leaks. While many people are often kept on their toes and anxiously await the arrival of new music from Lady Gaga, this new single was hardly worth the wait. It is at best, disappointing. At worst, pathetic.

Gaga’s past records, 2008’s “The Fame”, the delux version titled “The Fame Monster”, and 2011’s “Born This Way” all did extremely well on the charts. Many of the songs were not only catchy, but unique and memorable. Who can forget the lyrics to her famous Bad Romance“?

Despite its name, “Applause” does not live up to its hype and does no justice to Gaga. What’s this song even about — performing so people can praise you and tell you how great you are? Wow, what a deep message. Has fame gotten to Lady Gaga? She always seemed to use her fame for good causes such as supporting individuality and freedom in the past. Yet there’s not hint at either of those things with this new single. Spin’s Marc Hogan said it well when he mentioned that “Lady Gaga’s Forgettable ‘Applause’ [is the] Sound of One Pop Star Clapping for Herself”.

When compared to Gaga’s other work, “Applause” is sub-par, but the rhythm and beat is nice enough. But it’s just a C grade song for a pop star that is always on here A game.

Gaga seems to be aware of the criticism and poor reception of her single. The fact that one of her competitors, Katy Perry, released a new single this week that has been extremely well received doesn’t help. In an effort to increase the number of single sales, Gaga is offering fans the chance to meet her. All they have to do is buy her single and post pictures of their receipts. She also admitted that fans who buy multiple copies will have a better chance of winning the contest. Sounds pretty desperate!

Here’s a treat for Emblem3 fans: the boys decided to debut their new music video for “Chloe (You’re The One I Want” a few hours early!

“Chloe” is the first single off of Emblem3’s currently untitled debut album which is scheduled to be released later this year.

The song has been making airways for quite sometime now. It is a catchy tune about the boy’s yearning for the attention of a female love interest that is constantly in her sister’s shadow.

Emblem3’s video for “Chloe” is fun and light-hearted. It shows the boys performing live, as if to show that they are singing this song directly to Chloe. They also feature various scenes where random girls receive buttons that say “I’m a Chloe” on them to make them feel special. One thing I like about these parts of the video is that the girls aren’t all super models — they look real. There’s plain girls, nerdy girls, artsy girls, and just average every day girls.
