The music video for “Berzerk” is here! Just as the song is reminiscent of the Beastie Boys, the video is no different. Their are plenty of old school stereo systems, a Beastie Boys trademark, featured throughout. I feel like the video is very 90’s hip-hop which makes a lot of sense since that is when the Beastie Boys experienced the height of their success.

The video also features a few appearances from fellow celebrity friends Kendrick Lamar and Kid Rock (who even knew they were such good friends?!?) and music producer Rick Rubin.
I really love the old-school, laid-back atmosphere in the video. It is very carefree and I think it fits in with the song lyrics perfectly.

Police pulled Odom over after he was driving under the speed limit and in what the cops described as a “serpentine manner”. It took awhile for Odom to respond to the police as he reportedly drove through 3 exits before stopping. Odom was then asked to do a series of field sobriety tests, all of which he failed. He refused to take a chemical test. He was released from prison at 8:33 am.

This past week Odom went missing for over 72 hours on what was believed to be a crack cocaine binge. His struggle with drug addiction has been said to take a toll on his marriage to Khloe. Hopefully this recent arrest will help open Odom’s eyes and get him the help he needs to better himself and save his marriage!

Eminem released the first official single (other than Surivival which is part of Call Of Duty: Ghosts. The new single is called “Berzerk” and centers around a theme of having fun, letting go, not taking life too seriously, or simply going “berzerk”.

The song as Ryan Seacrest brought up has a very similar sound to the Beastie Boys. I’ve never been much of an Eminem fan (although my sister’s a fanatic, so saying I’ve been exposed to Eminem’s music over the years is a huge understatement), but I find that the more I listen to this song the more it grows on me. I’ve always favored the Beastie Boys over Eminem and this song is extremely catchy. “Berzerk” doesn’t seem like typical Eminem to me.

I was a little bit disappointed by the lyrics. Although I am not a fan of Eminem, I always appreciated the way many of his lyrics were more serious than typical rap songs. However, these lyrics are laid back, silly, and I feel less meaningful than most of Eminem’s songs. In typical Eminem style, there are several celebrities that are mentioned throughout. He does this often with his less serious songs (take for instance, The Real Slim Shady where he mentioned Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Fred Durst, and even Carson Daly). But this time around it’s not quite as funny. He seems to be honoring K-Fed which is a bit confusing. I see K-Fed as a bit of a poorly dressed bum that just kind of goes on making babies with various women (he’s married now, but god knows how long that will last). Eminem seems to be honoring him in his new song for the lack of fucks he gives. I guess not giving a fuck is something to honor? At least Eminem seems to think so.

Kendrick Lamar seems to have gotten praise from Eminem as well, as he received a shout out in the song. However, the lyrics don’t seem to mention why. It is just a quick shout out without much of an explanation.

Eminem also mentions MC Ren, a rapper that few people know about. Eminem seems aware of this as he quickly dismisses that he is talking about Ren from Ren and Stimpy with the verse “And I don’t mean Stimpy’s friend, bitch”. Sorry guys, Ren and Stimpy just aren’t worthy of praise in Eminem’s song…

Other celebrities under fire in “Berzerk” are Khloe Kardashian who Eminem refers to as “The ugly one” and Lamar, who Eminem accuses of “setting the bar too low”.

I predict that “Berzerk” will be a very successful single for Eminem since it’s so damn catchy and everyone is already so hyped up about Eminem having new music. This song will be all over the radio and sell well. However, if I were to give it a grade it would just be a B-. It’s catchy and fun, but less creative than some of his other light stuff and the lyrics are sub par compared to his more serious stuff. It’s just kind of catchy and okay.
