Katy Perry has just released her much anticipated music video for her smash hit, “Roar”!
The video is extremely visually appealing taking place in the jungle surrounded by forest animals. Perry is first featured in the video after suffering a plane crash with another man. Both Perry and the mystery man are dressed like jungle explorers. Perry seems rather distraught by the plane crash, but the man seems disinterested and lacking in apathy. He’d much rather take some selfies with Perry than comfort her. Perry proves to be the stronger of the two as the man is quickly eaten by a tiger, leaving Perry to fight for her own survival without him.

Now alone, Perry needs to face some of her biggest fears head-on. From avoiding alligators while bathing in the water to remaining calm as spiders crawl all over her body, Perry is learning the true meaning of inner strength.
Perry learns to befriend many of the forest animals while remaining on the lookout for the most ferocious of all forest animals and the King of the Jungle himself, the great Tiger.

Perry comes face to face with the Tiger at the end of the video. She lures it in and then challenges it to a roaring match. Perry never backs down despite the fierceness shown by the tiger. She makes it known that the tiger is going to hear her roar and that he does! Perry projects her voice so loudly than even the all mighty king of the jungle can’t handle her power! The tiger bows down in fear, proving that Perry is the new Queen of the jungle, ruling over all animals including the all-mighty king himself.

The video is beautiful and powerful. I think it goes along with the song perfectly. I always thought the song suggested a bit of girl-power and an anthem to woman to be strong and stand up for themselves, but the video seems to emphasize that so much more. From the man being eaten by a tiger in the beginning of the video to Perry defeating the tiger one thing is made clear: Perry is a strong, independent woman who doesn’t need a man for support. She can roar on her own, thank you very much.

Yesterday Lady Gaga announced that she was releasing her latest single, “Applause” a week early due to unexpected leaks. While many people are often kept on their toes and anxiously await the arrival of new music from Lady Gaga, this new single was hardly worth the wait. It is at best, disappointing. At worst, pathetic.
Gaga’s past records, 2008’s “The Fame”, the delux version titled “The Fame Monster”, and 2011’s “Born This Way” all did extremely well on the charts. Many of the songs were not only catchy, but unique and memorable. Who can forget the lyrics to her famous “Bad Romance“?
Despite its name, “Applause” does not live up to its hype and does no justice to Gaga. What’s this song even about — performing so people can praise you and tell you how great you are? Wow, what a deep message. Has fame gotten to Lady Gaga? She always seemed to use her fame for good causes such as supporting individuality and freedom in the past. Yet there’s not hint at either of those things with this new single. Spin’s Marc Hogan said it well when he mentioned that “Lady Gaga’s Forgettable ‘Applause’ [is the] Sound of One Pop Star Clapping for Herself”.
When compared to Gaga’s other work, “Applause” is sub-par, but the rhythm and beat is nice enough. But it’s just a C grade song for a pop star that is always on here A game.
Gaga seems to be aware of the criticism and poor reception of her single. The fact that one of her competitors, Katy Perry, released a new single this week that has been extremely well received doesn’t help. In an effort to increase the number of single sales, Gaga is offering fans the chance to meet her. All they have to do is buy her single and post pictures of their receipts. She also admitted that fans who buy multiple copies will have a better chance of winning the contest. Sounds pretty desperate!

Yesterday marked the official release of Katy Perry’s new single from her forthcoming album “Roar”. Perry has been making a splash across the country as she travels with her Prism truck while promoting her upcoming album. She has also been filming videos burning her blue wig from her 2010 release, “Teenage Dream”.
While “Roar” isn’t too far off from Perry’s signature pop sound, the song has a much more grown up and powerful message than much of her previous singles. It has a hint of self-empowerment similar to “Firework”, but “Roar” somehow sounds like a stronger tune. The song does more than just celebrate individuality. This is a fighting anthem encouraging listeners to rise above negative influences and to fight for themselves.
I personally see this song as becoming a positive break-up anthem. It is an ode to individuals that feel beaten down from their past relationships and in a way, Perry seems to be saying “You will be okay. You will roar.”
Check out the lyric video below and let me know what you think of “Roar”! Roar is available for purchase now on iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play Perry’s upcoming album, Prism, will be available on October 22nd.
